Two balls / Sausage

The words peek up at me between semitransparent plastic handles. They are elegantly written in my grandmother's angled, smooth cursive, on on a tiny square of orange paper, carefully but crookedly taped to the top of a tall Lock & Lock container, itself sharing space in the bag with my two red mittens.

I made a 12 page comic and it's weird

And by weird I also mean, seriously NSFW. You've been warned.

I made it on the Sunday of Pop Expo, instead of spending time around people and noise.  It features the kind of ladies that I like to draw, and also bugs and stuff. And a twist ending? Probably not.

Woodland vampire

Rather than the typical vampire styled after human culture, I took a different approach. After a few hundred years you wouldn't really connect with humans anymore so this creature definitely feels more beast-like; uninhibited, not guilt-ridden, and very connected to nature.

Poison Ivy

I wanted to do a cosplay of an American comic book character. I chose Poison Ivy, because I'm a big nature fan and sympathize with many environmental issues. In some ways, I think she's doing the right thing, maybe in the wrong way.

Religion of the Suzuki Katana GSX 750

I realized last night, powering down Riverside's curvaceous asphalt, that night is my favourite time to drive.

No-one told me when I bought my motorcycle that driving it would be one of the strongest and most intensely physical spiritual epiphanies I'd ever experience.

But is it ever.

Musings on true love in Disney's Frozen

True love - noun. A plot device used between romantic partners allowing an audience to suspend their disbelief at the disproportionate level of a person's actions.

Frozen - noun. A Disney movie that employs the true love device.

Love (true or otherwise) - verb. It grows out of the characters' journey, their struggles, conflicts, reconciliations, and teamwork. It always involves sacrifice that is based, not on some faith in fate, but out of a genuine desire to put another person's well-being before their own.

Ottawa ComicCon 2014 how-to guide

Ottawa ComicCon was where I originally discovered that cosplay was even a thing. I really love this convention and in the last few years it has gotten even more awesome. This year it was the first convention where I participated in the Masquerade, and also the first one where I actually cosplayed a comic book character. (Normally I just make costumes of my own characters.) I love that number of firsts. This is also the first time I figured I'd write about the whole experience for anyone considering it. I've written this as a how-to guide - so you can skip to the bits you're most interested in.

Zombie Queen

The idea for this original costume came as many do - it popped into my head out of nowhere, way too late for me to do anything about it.
